COMPUTER
ERRORS WHICH COULD CAUSE DEATH WILL BE INEVITABLE: The first part of
ACA starts with the HITECH Act, a mandate that requires physicians to
leave their pen and paper method of dealing with patients and transition
to electronic patient charts by 2015. Once doctors have figured out
their new computer systems, they have to then get past the normal
computer issues that occur, like missing information, software and
hardware quirks and any other day-to-day technological malfunctions.
Doctor’s schedules don’t normally allow free time to spend training on
administrative changes like the ones required by the HITECH Act, and
computer errors in patients’ charts can have life-changing implications,
up to and including death.
