Hi everyone!
Today I've encountered a tricky situation. I am now hosting some couchsurfers at my place and all of a sudden, a local police showed up at my place (I checked and he is truly a police). He accused me of allowing foreigners to stay illegally because following to the Vietnamese law, foreigners are forced to stay at a hotel or any other places that have a business licence. It means your friends cannot stay at your place except you get a business licence for the place (but I do not want to set up a hotel or something). I am so confused now :( Does anyone have experiences about this case before? Greatly appreciate if you can give me advice...

Chico & chicas! I just
called a high level lawyer and he confirmed that if you have no legal
relationship with a foreigner, he/she cannot stay at your place and no
way the police can accept his/her stay at your own house. The only way a
foreigner can stay here in VN is booking a hostel/hotel or anywhere
else that has a hotel business licence. FUCK YEAH!
Find foreigners who live in
"Room For Rent" rooms. In other words, do not just talk to foreigners
who live in hotels, apartments, hostels, motels, and other official
business housing facilities. I am a couch surfer. I have been in Vietnam
for the past 8 months.
Couch Surfing (CS) still has a purpose apart from hosting others. CS still allows for meeting people, for networking, at parks, cafes, and other meeting places. It does not have to be the end of the world. You can try to fight laws, or you can be happy for what we can do. Vietnam still has freedoms. I would not still be here in Vietnam if they made me pay money to breath the air in Vietnam.
When things don't go our way, we can cry about it, or we can do our best to compensate in order to regain the balance in life.
