- Hi fellow CSers,
I'm teaching Vietnamese to some of my friends in Sydney and they are interested in the language a lot.
So they want to find some good books to practice Vietnamese at home.
Are you attending any Vietnamese course atm? or do you know any good Vietnamese text books thats really good to learn by yourself? I just need the titles and author so I may find some in Sydney.
Thanks in advance.
Phuongyou should get in touch with Vietnamese students who are studying in Sydney, i think they have something you need.

I'll probably get a 6 month tourist visa unless there's a better option.
Oh, and how strict are they about the expiration? Can I get it renewed the day of or a couple days after?
Thanks in advance :D - Hi Guys ! Anybody knows where has English club? please tell me know, Thank you so much :)

If you don't have any experience so you could join with other in phuot.vn
In case you want to go alone or with your friend only, let make your plan more clearly, by answer some kind of question like this:
+ Where you want to go ?
+ How do you go to there ?
+ How much could you spend ?
+ Do you have any friend there ?
+ Where do you sleep ?
+ Do you have any backup solution ?
....
You could go to search for the place you will visited and then make you plan more clearly.
If you need any help, dont hesitate to leave me a msg in my PM.

So we just have 3 people. I stay hotel and i have plan where place to go. But still not yet how to go... because vn such BIG haha - Coucou CS-ers
I'm Thông, a 20-year-young man. I officially lost my job two week agos ;( I was teaching Vietnamese to a Malaysian guy but now he quits as he can run his own self-study Vietnamese class.... That's either good news or bad news to me.
Well, I post this thread in the extreme hope of getting a new part-time job because I feel so uncomfortable when using my parents'money.... I did try Craiglist but it did not work at all. There was a man whose name is Robert Greco, he offered me a job (as a Vietnamese teacher and translator) and I was more than happy to accept it. However, on the day we met up, this man just talked nonsense instead of going straight to the business. He then showed me his company, which is actually a "Ghost company"....Phews, luckily, I realized that, laced up my boots, yelled some bad words at him ;P and quickly walked on home...........
Oh oh, I think I should go back, sorry, just got off the subject so far.
Hmm, Do you have any recommendations to me? I'm grateful for any replies.
Thank you so very much !
T
Sorry for you lad! Hey, if you have a motorcycle, go run xe ôm. Or go looking along Hai Bà Trưng, Lê Thánh Tôn, somewhere near Mê Linh square, lots of bars want assistant. You can go to Tây Ba Lô quarters and ask for work there too. Robert actually once a while holds an English-club style meeting and charge you 50 thousand đồng, whenever he has enough quorum. I'd one day give his ass a kick. I'm gonna trick him calling 0909755021 to Thị Nghè river and kick him swimming down there!
Don't loose heart! God will open another door, he's closed one! - Ey,
just arrived in HCMC and I'm looking to rent a bike! I heard a lot of people buy one, but I dont really want to unless it is gonna be necessary.
I want to drive to Hoi An in about 13 days (Mui ne, Dalat, Nha Trang on the way). Anyone know of a place that rents trustworthy bikes and do 1 way trips?
Tnx!Hi,
Normally It would take you about 40-70$/month.
It is easy to rent a bike at HCMC, you could go to Phạm Ngũ Lão Street at District 1 or ask your hotel assistant for help.
if you still have any problem, don't hesitate to tell me I would happy to help you.
Fun with your trip.
P/S: When you come to Hoi An, let visit Da Nang city, it would be nice place for you too. - Has anybody know anything about Secondary Oatmill? Do you believe in a member without a complete profile? I just got a private message from Oatmill, not through Couchsurfing (?), I am still wondering how he can get in touch through my Yahoo Messenger. He seems to be knowledgeable and know a lot about other CS members. He identified himself as a free worker of some sort. He sounded indignant about some members as though he was seeking fair treatment for a friend of his. Sounded like sort of vigilante justice.

Hey Oatmeal, this is a commmunity of nice Couchsurfers. Don't kick up a rumpus! - Dear HCMC CS community (=
I'm gonna do an internship at the international geman school from the 26th of august till the 27th of september. Unfortunatly, the school can't help me finding a place to live.
I don't think it'll be too hard to do a constant couchsurf in the same city for 5weeks, but on the other hand, paying $15 every night is too much for my budget.
Does anybody have an idea, where to find a cheaper room? Maybe somebody has a free room right now? In exchange for a small amount of money or some housework or something like that?
(If possible, close to:Thao Dien, District 2)
Thanks in advance,
looking forward to experience vietnam,
Kadda (=I can help you. If you believe me. Please contact me: hungtall90@yahoo.com.vnIf you work in Thao Dien, look for your accommodation in Thao Dien. Along the Quốc Hương street, which is one block paralell to Thảo Điền, there are a lot of hostels for Vietnamese commoners and workers, who may be paying $50 dollars/room/month for 4 tenants to share. Ask the students of Đại Học Văn Hóa (University of Culture) on the mentioned street, who you can meet and make friends with about accommodation. They would love to have you as friend to practice English. You can just walk to work. Good luck! - Hi Guys,

- I and my friend (2 girls) are planning a trip to Can Tho this weekend. Just wondering if anybody wanna join us?we'll go there by Phuong Trang bus. i just book the tickets. Catch bus at 328A Le Hong Phong, District 10. I choose the bus at middle night on Friday (12 pm) in order that we can use all day of Sat to visit as many places as we can.
U can call me via 0949 551 800 or skype: dinhthanhhuyen87.
Hope u can join. It'll be nice.I am sure you have a good time there. The derivation of the name "Cần Thơ" itself has been in much controversy. Whatever you might hear about the origin of the name, the truth is most Mekong Delta geographical names originated from Khmer language. Cần Thơ is still almost homophonic with /kun- Thoh/, the Khmer name of a species of indigenous fish (Tricogaster Pectoralis) or Cá Sặc Rằn. Ask for khô cá sặc rằn to eat with green mango (xoài sống). It goes superbly well with the moonshine rượu đế.
Enjoy your trip. - So so longtime i left away this site , now i am back ,, Wow ! new shape , new interface ....it looks to make more closer people ,,,

- Hi everybody- so I'm coming to HCMC to take a course June 10th- July 5th. Tragically my VISA extension (I extended my original 3 month visa for 3 extra months) expires on July 4th. Does anybody have any wise advice/counsel on the best way to get one more month in HCMC? (that’s how long I want to stay) Either through another extension, or a brand new 1 month visa I suppose. Recommendations on visa-agents would also be super-appreciated.People tell me to take a bus to Cambodia. some people say the bus ride to Cambodia is around $20 USD (400.000 VND). They say you should stay the night at a hostel for around $10. Go to a travel agency to buy a new visa. I extended my 3 month tourist visa for 3 more months. My visa expires around the end of May of 2013. I will either go to Cambodia or find another way to get a new visa. I live and work teaching English at schools in the different districts in Saigon.
- anyone can take me out of the airport for it's already dark by that time? :)u can take a taxi at the airport any time. in case u need someone to help u in ho chi minh city, contact to me: chienthanh@uyvu.vn or thanhchien1008 (skype)inside the airport, before you go out of arrival gate, there is a transport counter with the staff in traditional dress (Ao Dai), you should ask them to book a cab to down town, it will cost around 10$ and the staff will give you an invoice and lead you to the cab. This one will be safer than you go out of the arrival gate and take a taxi by yourself ( because some man in white T- shirt will try to rid you off: $30-$40 for a cab, so remember: dont trust any man in white Tshirt there)
In case you dont see the counter, just ask somebody there about this service. If they tell you to go out side, just go out of the gate and turn left. You will see the board '' Taxi stand '' and just watch the local how they take the taxi there. Some men in white Tshirt will approach you so don't listen and don't talk to them. Many ppl are waiting for taxi with you, just watch how they do it.
Mai Linh - Visa Sun taxi are good choice but I'm afraid they dont have service at international airport. but good luck! Maybe other brands are ok such as Airport Taxi, Happy Taxi or Dau Khi taxi...
However, hope you can find the transport counter inside the airport. Good luck! - hello guys, i just moved saigon from South korea .

You can send email for me. I will calling for you.
Nice to meet you, too - I live in Ho Chi Minh City (HCM), Vietnam (VN). I have been in Vietnam for the last 6 months, since the 29th of November of 2012. I am living in Saigon, right now. I first came to Vietnam via the Hanoi airport on a 3-months multiple-entry tourist visa. I extended my visa in HCM, since my visa was expiring on the 22nd of February, 2013. You can find my contact information at
http://OriginalOatmeal.WordPress.com
I am planning on staying in Vietnam for the next few years.
I gave my passport to a Vietnamese person who better make me a new visa. This time, I am not going for a multiple-entry visa. I asked for a 3-months single-entry tourist C2 (or something) visa. I hope they can go over the Cambodia border on my behalf, so I do not have to spend around 20 hours going to Cambodia and back. Some say that you have to go over the border yourself, while others claim that you can pay somebody else to do it for me. My 1st extension of my 1st ever visa does expire on the 22nd of May, 2013. They say I can buy a new 3 months visa, plus 3 more additional months (extension), plus the border stamp into my U.S. passport book, for almost $150 USD. That is almost 3.000.000 VND. I am learning about how visas, passports, and the other things work.
I was born and raised in Forest Grove, Washington County, Oregon, United States. I attended 4 different colleges over 5 years in New York, West Virginia, & Oregon. I graduated from the Word Of Life Bible Institute in New York. I attended the Appalachian Bible College in West Virginia. I worked for the Salvation Army for 9 months in Hawaii as a missionary. I worked for 5 different years as a counselor at camps in New York, California, Oregon, and Hawaii. I have worked around 5 or more years in different states as a dishwasher, and in maintenance, landscaping, housekeeping, laundry, food prep, bakery. I have worked in a traveling children ministry team for 2 years around New York. I have worked in many ministry teams with different churches and ministries in different states. Been on mission trips in Idaho, Quebec, & Hawaii. I have worked at an after-school program, at a basketball camp as a counselor, as a basketball manager, as a freelance film-maker, editor, web builder, actor, inventor, song-writer.
I am teaching English all over Saigon, Vietnam.

http://Facebook.com/OriginalOatmeal@Heyde: Some of us are the real witness for what he has done. We all experienced spending time with him, and what could we have back? Nothing for sure! If you spend more time with him on here, you will find that he is really such a spammer, and a jerk (for sure a jerk!). I know something about the story between him and his gf in Vietnam. And I also know the reason why he has to move to Binh Thanh and stay there. And we are so tired of him... We also don't want him to spoil our community anymore...
I hope that will be enough for you to understand about our problem. You can look down to the lower posts to see how he spams around...haha! when you asked him email, he needs like an hour to create a new email to you:)) haha, it is easy for us to not answer any acct have no profile. he is too stupid to creat a diffferent profile for his acct. we know that because he report everything in his blog and yell at why people treat him like that. hahaTrâm Phạm, I'm not Joey. You say that you do know Joey. I just do not know why you want to black-mail him. I do not understand why you are seeking to get this man fired from his job. I don't understand why you are seeking to destroy his life. They say that Vietnamese people are generous, but this is quite the opposite.@smirking: i know, I just wanted to be helpful. he told me a lot pity story about him. I thought he was a pity man so I decided to help him, but now, too late to relize that he was so sick, crazy, bad guy! so that, I will write a post about him! looking for a lawyer to kick him out of my country if I can!People should care about everybody. That is what the Bible says. Love thy neighbors. Much more than that, love thy enemies. It is my business. We are not here to just care about family and our boy friends. We are to care about making this world a better place. Tram, I take what you are saying to me as an insult & that hurts.Kim, Joey, whatever your real name is...
I've been reading your posts for a few weeks now and i thought it was better to not write anything back, to just ignore you, hoping you would go away.
But you don't ever shut up, do you?
I think you are a lying, talent-less loony. You repeat over and over the same information so many times that i bet all of us have memorized it by now. I takes you 5 long paragraphs or more to write what anybody could write in 5 sentences. I bet some could even do it in one.
Repeating that you are an inventor, a singer, a writer, etc, is maybe a way for you to try to make it real. But it doesn't work that way buddy.
You are none of the above.
You are just a nuisance.
Your Visa is currently expired so i hope that will mean the end of your stay in Vietnam. Sadly i don't think it will be the end of your spamming, will it?
Wise up and get the hell out of here. This is my first and last message to you.Joey, Kim, Bob, Dan, whoever you are.
i saw a post on your blog last night with the title "Adam and Steve", it was a picture of 2 gay couples and the caption says "If gay people can take a bullet for their country, they should be able to take a date to prom", and your comment that you're disagree with the photo.
i have seen you trolling here many times before and i didn't want to say anything about you because it's none of my business. but i've learned that you're not only just a liar, not just disrespectful to the people who helped you but also a homophobic.
you claimed that you're a movies maker, a writer, an inventor, a singer and so on. i have spent years studying cinematography and frankly, your Youtube videos are lame. and i'm just thinking if you were that good why shouldn't you be in Hollywood instead, but Ho Chi Minh City, and disturbing the peace and friendliness of our community on CouchSurfing. now every posts they've made are all about you. believe me Joey/Kim/Bob/Dan, it was not because you have white skin like you would always say - you are not the only white skin person here, there are 320,000 of them and counting living all over Vietnam; it was not because we are communistic and socialistic, you have no idea about socialism; it was mostly because you're an annoyance.
and last but not least, if you're still saying it's Adam and Steve not Adam and Eve about gay people, you better Adam and Leave.@cindy Pham . Shame is yours. Why should you judge others in such an unfair way? What has Joey done to other Couchsurfers in Saigon? Nothing, he's just a guy with sincere intention to stay and benefit the community. He may of shown some off-beat behavior, but does it really matters. You have a lot of homeless insane people on streets, some people piss in tree stumps or into walls along some main streets; which is more decent than Joey's acting, isn't it? So please stop that band wagon bully against a lonely guy! - Hi there, I recently moved to HCMC. I am thinking of learning how to ride and get a license and maybe later get a motorbike.
I don't have a license and my experience in biking is limited to 2 days on a automatic scooter in thailand. I do have a driving license and 10 yrs of driving experience.
Can someone guide me on the process for getting a license here?
thanks!Hi Ethan
I can help you to get a lisence (experience in biking & information & registration & testing &....)
email: ngnvanthai@gmail.com / phone:01222000792 - I had a missed call from a random number so I called them back and they said, "long time no talk, let's meet." I asked them for their name and I had no clue who they were, but I thought it would be embarrassing if it was someone I didn't remember. So I texted her my address and we met at a noodle place nearby.
She definitely seemed like a prostitute & said we met at "Bar 51" 7 or 8 months ago. I've never been to that bar and I've only been here 4 or 5 months. After I caught on to her bullsh*t I started leading her on with false information to see if she'd go along with it. Sure enough she did. I caught her in more than enough lies to know that she was sketchy. I left and told her to text me her address if she wanted to meet again. I can't be certain but I think the most plausible conclusions are that:
1.) she was trying to scope my apartment for her friends to rob later.
2.) she is just a lonely girl who gets people's phone numbers & pretends to have met them before as an ice breaker.
Pretty sure it's the former one. Oh, and I don't know how she actually got my number but I'm foolish & trusting enough to list it publicly on my CS profile. Well, not anymore.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?i got into that problem before and it turned out that she was a prostitute, but it was my fault that i gave her my contact when i was drunk at the club. the next day she asked me out and told me pityful stories about her family finance and only stopped when i asked her to.
from my personal experience, only give your phone number to somebody that you trust enough. do not publish any personal information on websites, it could be a threat. i've also got my drawings stolen online, got it changed on some details and claimed it was theirs. - Tomorrow, I and my Italian friend Diego will make a trip to Phu Quy island (in Phan Thiet city). We will leave Saigon city at 1pm on Thursday (June 6) and arrive to Phan Thiet city after 4-5hrs, by Mai Linh bus. We will take a ride around Phan Thiet city and have dinner, then we'll sleep on the beach wtth our tent. Morning after, we will take a boat to go to Phu Quy island. It takes us about 6hrs to go there and spend 2 or 3 days there.
We know it's a bit late but we hope will get some guys join us to explore this beautiful island together.
Dzung and Diego. - Excuse me if this thread is a bit diffuse and far ranging.
I’ve just got a lot of stuff to throw out there.
So onto the adventure ideas thing.
I’m a big fan of pushing the envelope and trying out weird exciting things and challenges.
random potential adventure examples-
having a competition with another non-native viet speaker to see who can make the most money Xe Om for an hour, swimming across a lake, taking a couple day bicycle ride, climbing a mountain, wandering around trying to beat strangers at rock paper scissors, semi-impromptu running marathon through the city, trying to learn hip-hop dancing, making a short 1-day movie, shining shoes for the day.
Ok that’s it for brainstorming.
I’m new to HCMC, so if anyone has any ideas for an Saigon-centric weird, awesome or potentially risky things I can get up too, please throw it out there
I’m going to be pretty busy studying for a super-hard (word on the street ) CELTA course, but I still want to cram in some adventures and hijinks
So, item 2
partner in crime
I’d like someone of a similar mindset. And adventurous, offbeat, artistic temperament= cool.
Mind you you don’t have to want to crazy adventures every second of every day or anything ,
I like going to pubs, watching movies and doing normal stuff too.
…..
onto the “hint” section

I hope this helps - Hello CS Saigon!! I'm Thanh, a co-founder of Trade School HCMC. This is a non-profit learning community that runs on barter.
Basically teachers sign up to teach for free, and if your lesson plan is approved then we'll put it up on our website together with teacher's wishlist, after that students sign up for the class and bring an item in the wishlist to teacher.
It's an amazing community to share your knowledge and experience about everything, from dancing to cooking to speaking English. We even got as academic as Six Sigma in our first season last May. You do not need to be the expert or certified to teach with us.
Our team is spending our time and money doing this because we love the idea of sharing and learning from each other, which is exactly what CS is all about, too. We are excited to run a second season in mid-July. We hope to see CS community sharing your knowledge and experience at Trade School HCMC too.
You can find our website at: http://tradeschool.coop/hochiminh/ (scroll down for English) and our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TradeSchoolHCMC

Have a nice day. goodbye! - Hello Ho Chi Minh City my name's Joel and im hoping theres some one out there who can help me with sending a bicycle to New Zealand, ether activly showing me where to go or with quality information.
Ive been cycling over the last few months through southen China and Vietnam, im in Da Nang and will be getting the train to HCMC tomorro (arriving on the 5th) and would like to send my bike on to new zealand while i continue traveling for a month through Cambodia and Thailand.
Basicaly i need to get to a bike shop that will have the tools to take the bike apart and provide me with an old bie box to put it all in,
Then find a post office or (if the post office wont handle a large item like this) a delivery company that can , at a good price, the bicycle it self isn't worth all that much but is a sentimental thing for me, i would like to get it sent at less than 200$ ,
If anybody knows anything i would be really appreciative of any information.
JoelHi Joel! I never send something like that before. But I know a company Vinalink losgistic http://www.vinalinklogistics.com/
Maybe, tomorrow I can help for asking for you if you want!.
I am not sure about price, but I will ask and you can make your decision!.Or you can try this site! http://www.ttico.com.vn/
I found that this site have service for shipping goods to New Zealand. May I can ask for u tomorrow. G9Hi Joel, I called TTICO for you today, and this is some information for you:
You can ship your bike by ship to cut down money. And your bike don't need to be disassemble.
- The price of shipping depend on which port in New Zealand you want to ship to. But the highest price just $140/item. Excluded extra money for safe box.
And when you receive your item at port in New zealand, you have to pay around $250 to $300 for port tax.
- You can contact with them by email: thuy.sales@ttico.com.vn => Ms. Thuy will give you the exactly price and make service for you.
- This company will pick-up your item at your place and send them to New zealand.
Hope that above information is useful for you.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you need any help! - Canyoning in Dalat and Deep water soloing in Halong bay. Anyone got more info on these or maybe planning do to it as well?Im going climbing later here in HCM if you want to join. http://www.xrockclimbing.com/canyoneering in Dalat was one of the coolest experiences I had in wild-Vietam. The waterfall repelling is BADASS and well worth the time/cash (takes about 5 hours, cost just under 500,000 if memory serves correctly, and included a training hill followed by 2-3 walls and about 3 waterfalls plus a cliff jump).
I recommend finding an instructor that doesnt have many ppl going at the same time, that way you dont have to sit around forever waiting for everyone.
Have fun bro, cheers!
Have fun manHi guys,
I'm making a trip to Phu Quy island tomorrow. Anyone wants to join us? I know it's a bit late. We intend to leave Saigon at 3pm to go to Phan Thiet city. Sleep there (on the beach in our tent) and morning after, we will take a boat at 8h30am and it takes us 6hrs to arrive to Phu Quy island where we plan to camp and discover the island in two days.
If you want to join us, drop me a message at my number zero 9 zero 8 two five 1 double 0 six.

Phuong - I've had my visa renewed once in Phan Thiet and another time at the embassy in Malaysia. Where is somewhere cheap, safe, convenient, etc. in Saigon?
I'll probably get a 6 month tourist visa unless there's a better option.
Oh, and how strict are they about the expiration? Can I get it renewed the day of or a couple days after?
Thanks in advance :D - I am a Vietnam girl, but I never take the time to travel in my country. Now I decided to implement it in their journeys through Vi (more...)
- Coucou CS-ers

- Ey,
just arrived in HCMC and I'm looking to rent a bike! I heard a lot of people buy one, but I dont really want to unless it is gonna be necessary.
I want to drive to Hoi An in about 13 days (Mui ne, Dalat, Nha Trang on the way). Anyone know of a place that rents trustworthy bikes and do 1 way trips?
Tnx!

- Hi everybody- so I'm coming to HCMC to take a course June 10th- July 5th. Tragically my VISA extension (I extended my original 3 month visa for 3 extra months) expires on July 4th. Does anybody have any wise advice/counsel on the best way to get one more month in HCMC? (that’s how long I want to stay) Either through another extension, or a brand new 1 month visa I suppose.
