um, why did the video ignore the original Super Mario Bros. 2 (japanese), as well as Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2 for GB?

The Japanese version (of Super Mario History (youtube it)) has the Super Mario Bros 2 as well as Super Mario USA (aka our Super Mario Bros 2) as for why Super Mario land series got ignored that's still a mystery.

no, they weren't. all of the 3 i mentioned were made by Nintento themselves. SML 1 was made by a 1st party company, under the supervision of Gunpei Yoko.
