Hi there!
I’m a student from China. I’m going to travel in Vietnam for about one month from August this summer vacations. It will be my first time going abroad and I’m really looking forward to it!!
However, my university asks me to come back before 8.15 to participate in summer camp, or I can’t earn practice credits for the second year in university. So to speak…
Of course that I don’t want to give up the trip! So I talked to my professors and they agreed that it’s also acceptable if I do some kinds of practice outside school.
But the premise is that I need to show my professors a document about the organization, agency or some places where I do my practice. (It’s like a Documentary evidence for my practice about one month. I know it’s sort of cheating, but pleaseee, who didn’t do any crazy things in his school time!! lol)
So, is there anyone who can offer me one?
In return, I’d like to work (actually volunteer) there for about one week. You don't need to pay me. And after that, I also need a practice evaluation from the place where I volunteer.
Let me know if you have any ideas or questions. I would be very grateful to your help!
Have a good day!
Mélodie.

Chào People of Ho Chi Minh City,
On the 16 June my friend an me are coming to your city. Our plan is to explore Vietnam and bordering countries on motorbike! :D
- Can you recommend me a place, where I can get a good bike (250ccm)?
- Is renting a good idea or are there better alternatives?
- How much can I expect for rent per day?
- Is it possible to cross the border with a rented bike? or maybe this way: How strict are the check points?
- Is it possible to estimate how many kilometeres you can do in average without rushing?
I appreciate every kind of advice !
Cảm ơn rất nhiều & Dankeschön

Has anybody know anything about Secondary Oatmill? Do you believe in a member without a complete profile? I just got a private message from Oatmill, not through Couchsurfing (?), I am still wondering how he can get in touch through my Yahoo Messenger. He seems to be knowledgeable and know a lot about other CS members. He identified himself as a free worker of some sort. He sounded indignant about some members as though he was seeking fair treatment for a friend of his. Sounded like sort of vigilante justice.
Hey Oatmeal, this is a commmunity of nice Couchsurfers. Don't kick up a rumpus! -
Hi fellow CSers,
I'm teaching Vietnamese to some of my friends in Sydney and they are interested in the language a lot.
So they want to find some good books to practice Vietnamese at home.
Are you attending any Vietnamese course atm? or do you know any good Vietnamese text books thats really good to learn by yourself? I just need the titles and author so I may find some in Sydney.
Thanks in advance.

I've had my visa renewed once in Phan Thiet and another time at the embassy in Malaysia. Where is somewhere cheap, safe, convenient, etc. in Saigon?
I'll probably get a 6 month tourist visa unless there's a better option.
Oh, and how strict are they about the expiration? Can I get it renewed the day of or a couple days after?
Thanks in advance :D -
Hi guys, I am looking for someone to host me for like 4 days and 3 nights or maybe until I could find a house to temporarily stay in Saigon at the end of July.
I also need a room to rent with a friendly price as I will also be looking for English Teaching job or a job at an NGO. I will be starting a new life by living and working in Saigon or maybe in Hanoi if I don't get an opportunity in Saigon.
Can anyone host me? Hit me up! Meetup would also be okay.

I am a Vietnam girl, but I never take the time to travel in my country. Now I decided to implement it in their journeys through Vietnam
My plan is to meet the flight from Ho Chi Minh to Ha Noi and start from Hanoi
Fly From Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh : Stay 4 days ( travel around Hanoi )
From Ha Noi go to Ha Long Bay : Stay 3 days
From Ha Long go to Lang Son : 2 or 3 days
From Lang Son go to Cao Bang : 2 days
From Cao Bang go to Yen Bai : 1 days
From Yen Bai go to Son La (Sapa here) : 3 days
From Son La go to Hoa Binh (with hot springs): 2 days
From Hoa Binh go to Ninh Binh (temples with statues thousand of Buddha): 2 days
This is my travel itinerary of the northern Vietnam. (Plz help me how to go there?, And some experience of my plan)
If you plan to travel through Vietnam we can plan together. Because I feared for my trip ... -
Coucou CS-ers
I'm Thông, a 20-year-young man. I officially lost my job two week agos ;( I was teaching Vietnamese to a Malaysian guy but now he quits as he can run his own self-study Vietnamese class.... That's either good news or bad news to me.
Well, I post this thread in the extreme hope of getting a new part-time job because I feel so uncomfortable when using my parents'money.... I did try Craiglist but it did not work at all. There was a man whose name is Robert Greco, he offered me a job (as a Vietnamese teacher and translator) and I was more than happy to accept it. However, on the day we met up, this man just talked nonsense instead of going straight to the business. He then showed me his company, which is actually a "Ghost company"....Phews, luckily, I realized that, laced up my boots, yelled some bad words at him ;P and quickly walked on home...........
Oh oh, I think I should go back, sorry, just got off the subject so far.
Hmm, Do you have any recommendations to me? I'm grateful for any replies.
Thank you so very much !

Ey,
just arrived in HCMC and I'm looking to rent a bike! I heard a lot of people buy one, but I dont really want to unless it is gonna be necessary.
I want to drive to Hoi An in about 13 days (Mui ne, Dalat, Nha Trang on the way). Anyone know of a place that rents trustworthy bikes and do 1 way trips?
Tnx! -

Dear HCMC CS community (=
I'm gonna do an internship at the international geman school from the 26th of august till the 27th of september. Unfortunatly, the school can't help me finding a place to live.
I don't think it'll be too hard to do a constant couchsurf in the same city for 5weeks, but on the other hand, paying $15 every night is too much for my budget.
Does anybody have an idea, where to find a cheaper room? Maybe somebody has a free room right now? In exchange for a small amount of money or some housework or something like that?
(If possible, close to:Thao Dien, District 2)
Thanks in advance,
looking forward to experience vietnam,
Kadda (=

Hi Guys,
I am looking for some teachers/students who would be interested in experiencing a new platform to meet new students for personal or group lessons.
It's free and I'm doing it to make life easier for both parts :
- Foreigners who want to learn Vietnamese
- Vietnamese who want to learn English or other languages
All I'd like to get is some feed backs about the site. If you are interested, you can PM me.
Have a nice evening !

Okay, I've avoided getting involved in the whole Joey thing so far, but I feel that this needs to be said:
If you want Joey/Oatmeal/Kim/whateverhisnameis to piss off and leave us alone, the very simple solution is to STOP RESPONDING TO HIM WHEN HE POSTS ON HERE. Just ignore him. He is looking for attention and validation, and every time you reply to him or acknowledge him, no matter how well thought your argument, you are giving him the attention he seeks and encouraging him to post again. So stop.
Please guys. I know it's difficult, but it's the only way!
If you still need convincing, read point #4 here: http://bit.ly/1b4nPtc -

Hi everybody- so I'm coming to HCMC to take a course June 10th- July 5th. Tragically my VISA extension (I extended my original 3 month visa for 3 extra months) expires on July 4th. Does anybody have any wise advice/counsel on the best way to get one more month in HCMC? (that’s how long I want to stay) Either through another extension, or a brand new 1 month visa I suppose. Recommendations on visa-agents would also be super-appreciated.

I live in Ho Chi Minh City (HCM), Vietnam (VN). I have been in Vietnam for the last 6 months, since the 29th of November of 2012. I am living in Saigon, right now. I first came to Vietnam via the Hanoi airport on a 3-months multiple-entry tourist visa. I extended my visa in HCM, since my visa was expiring on the 22nd of February, 2013. You can find my contact information at
http://OriginalOatmeal.WordPress.com
I am planning on staying in Vietnam for the next few years.
I gave my passport to a Vietnamese person who better make me a new visa. This time, I am not going for a multiple-entry visa. I asked for a 3-months single-entry tourist C2 (or something) visa. I hope they can go over the Cambodia border on my behalf, so I do not have to spend around 20 hours going to Cambodia and back. Some say that you have to go over the border yourself, while others claim that you can pay somebody else to do it for me. My 1st extension of my 1st ever visa does expire on the 22nd of May, 2013. They say I can buy a new 3 months visa, plus 3 more additional months (extension), plus the border stamp into my U.S. passport book, for almost $150 USD. That is almost 3.000.000 VND. I am learning about how visas, passports, and the other things work.
I was born and raised in Forest Grove, Washington County, Oregon, United States. I attended 4 different colleges over 5 years in New York, West Virginia, & Oregon. I graduated from the Word Of Life Bible Institute in New York. I attended the Appalachian Bible College in West Virginia. I worked for the Salvation Army for 9 months in Hawaii as a missionary. I worked for 5 different years as a counselor at camps in New York, California, Oregon, and Hawaii. I have worked around 5 or more years in different states as a dishwasher, and in maintenance, landscaping, housekeeping, laundry, food prep, bakery. I have worked in a traveling children ministry team for 2 years around New York. I have worked in many ministry teams with different churches and ministries in different states. Been on mission trips in Idaho, Quebec, & Hawaii. I have worked at an after-school program, at a basketball camp as a counselor, as a basketball manager, as a freelance film-maker, editor, web builder, actor, inventor, song-writer.
I am teaching English all over Saigon, Vietnam.
Contact me if you want to meet me. I can teach you English. I can teach you anything you want to learn. You can ask me questions. I love making friends. We can bike. We can play games. We can play basketball. There are so many things we could do. Find me on Facebook with my email address:
