Walter Hanagriff III I will put total for all first so you dont have to read, as most wont. Total is 8.2 million dong a month as my budget. I know its saigon, but just amusing to note my budget for same lifestyle in north thailand, it was 5 million dong a month and i was about to go cheaper ok, so let me say my budget. I am a simple man, easy to please. Its all about the people I am with for me and all of my friends are locals so no big spenders. I am not a drinker really, if I go to the bar or club, i buy 1 drink usually. So going out for me isnt expensive, I like cinema but thats cheap. I prefer the theatres that cost under 100k. Say 1 cinema a week, eating out sometimes, drinks sometimes, trips around the area, most fun is cheap or free for my style even though i go out a lot. Zoo is 12,000 dong Parks free, eat out depends on place, but say average 300,000 a week, 800,000 a month. Sometimes I will pay for my company, sometimes they pay for me. Just call it even for simplicity. Transport = I love to walk. I like the buses no that I learned them and google maps is great for this. Mototaxi is rare but cheap when used. I ask friends for help when possible when I am going out with them. so average 450,000 for transport a month, max. Apartment is 3.8 million a month for a 28m2 room. Quite large for my needs but i like it. Brand new house, great neighborhood. Good security. Not much else to say, with utitlities, lets max it to 4.5 million a month. I got an offer for a 3milion dong apartment that was a more old local place. It would have been fine for me. Its not terrible just because it doesnt cost 5 million. Food = I like cooking. I can make western breakfast for around 40k or less. I can make a rice or noodle meal with seasoing, veggies, and meat for under 25,000 just how i like it, just at home, saves on transport costs. Really, i can do under 20k easy, just giving a max number. But I still say 80k a day average, even eating out since i spend quite a bit less most days. so 2.4 million dong a month on food.

Scott Gelsthorpe I spend 1.5tr just on petrol. That's on a scooter that does 50km/1lit, not a gas guzzler. There are still factory workers out there on 2.5tr a month in Saigon. - Walter Hanagriff III Mulan Origin, hehe, i always loved numbers and lists and budgets. I help others do travel planning to get the most bang for buck also. Once you learn the ins and outs, theres little to no sacrifice to get the same lifestyle for less cost. Sadly I think my cost of living will continue to be a little more expensive than I would like here, but its ok, the pay is pretty good in vietnam for me.
